Hilton Birmingham Metropole is the largest hotel in England outside London - with 790 rooms and suites, and approximately 6,000 sqm of conference halls. It is located in the heart of England's largest and Europe's second largest conference and convention center, next to The NEC Birmingham. The hotel is eight miles from Birmingham city center and just five minutes from Birmingham International Airport.

History

The hotel was built in early 1970's as two hotels, the Warwick block which now houses the single rooms was originally called the Warwick Hotel, this remained until about 1987/88 when it was connected to the main hotel by a glazed tunnel. The hotels were operated by Metropole Hotels (owned by Lonrho Plc) until October 1996 when it was taken over by Stakis Hotels which in turn was taken over by Hilton Hotels & Resorts in 1999. The Kings Suite extension was built in 1985-86. The car park was redesigned and the car park kiosk and walled borders were built in 1988-89 A extension was added in 1989-90 which now includes the executive rooms, swimming pool and Living Well Heath Club. The main entrance, concierge and lounge where extended and rebuilt in 1993-94. The conservatory extension to the Millers bar was built in 1998/99. A complete interior renovation was completed sometime in 1990's. Its last complete renovation finished in 2014 - fifth floor Executive Lounge has a new interior design, featuring seating and tables by RHA Furniture.

Meetings and Events

The UK's largest accommodation and conference hotel outside London has over 65,000 square feet of indoor space, with 33 different meeting rooms available, catering for 2 to 2,000 people who can be accommodated in 790 guest rooms. This capacity becomes the reason why many international awards and events are held in the hotel.

Hilton Birmingham Metropole was nominated for an England's Leading Conference Hotel in 2015.
